Chanel Jackets

Largely influenced by Dior’s ‘New Look’, the majority of jackets were wasp-waisted in the 1950s. Using corsets or girdles, they cinched women in, giving the appearance of exceedingly small waistlines.

More about Chanel jackets

Furthering her goal to free women from constrictive tailoring and uncomfortable clothing, Coco Chanel designed the Chanel Jacket in 1954. Like many of her other pieces, it was inspired by menswear, featuring straight lines and fitting loosely. She finished it with four pockets (all usable), braid detailing, stamped buttons (often with lions, which represent her star sign), and a hidden chain (sewn into its interior lining, so it fell perfectly). Enabling women to look elegant while also being able to move freely, the Chanel Jacket quickly became popular.

Karl Lagerfeld and Virginie Viard, Chanel’s former and current creative directors, have since reinterpreted it. Continuously modernizing it to reflect the ever-changing trends, the Chanel Jacket will forever be in style.

Shop our collection of vintage Chanel Jackets. Though tweed is the most iconic variation, as Coco was the first designer to use the material in luxury fashion, you do not have to wear a Chanel Tweed Jacket to get the look. Browse our wide selection of fabrics, including cotton, leather, and corduroy.

No matter which you choose, you will look classy and comfortable – just as Coco intended.
